Konbini Ossan Volume 16 Chapter 5 — Young Power
On yet another front, the forces of Otogi Trading were about to clash with the Douki Generals.
Tiana, Tio, and Joan. Facing them were no fewer than five Douki Generals.
And in addition, they were accompanied by several dozen ordinary Douki.
“Looks like a decent challenge, huh?”
When Joan said that, Tiana and Tio nodded and replied.
“Our new equipment’s-”
“-about to shake off the rust.”
With that, the two drew their swords from their sheaths and took their stances.
At once, the gem-like substances mounted on the hilts of their swords glowed faintly and emitted voices.
「Intelligence Sword. Activated.」
「Cooperative AI learning functions, all green.」
The voices came from the swords themselves, matching their owners’ voices but with a distinctly mechanical tone.
This was the Intelligence Sword, specialized equipment Otogi Trading had only recently succeeded in developing for individuals possessing transcendent combat ability.
This equipment was not simply an excellent sword.
The more it was used, the more it learned its wielder’s abilities, assisting with everything from how to use magic cast through the sword, to physical enhancement, and even swordsmanship itself.
Moreover, this assistance was not rigid or mechanical.
It adapted organically to the situation, to the wielder’s sword swings, even to their breathing rhythm.
As though one were fighting in coordination with another version of oneself.
Because individual combat power could surpass weaponry itself, a weapon that maximized that individual’s strength could be called the ultimate weapon.
That was the design philosophy behind its creation.
“Well, you two wait your turn. I want to test the power of this sword my darling made for me too.”
With that, Joan stepped forward.
The moment she drew her sword and took her stance, her entered combat readiness.
Not only the Intelligence Sword, but also her specially tuned custom-made Transcend Armor, a powered exoskeleton-type armor tailored to Joan, began activating.
Seeing Joan so fired up, Tiana and Tio stepped back.
“After you.”
“We don’t mind if you wipe them all out.”
Those words marked the beginning.
“«Blaze Kick»!”
Joan shouted the technique name, a voice command meant to heighten synchronization with the Intelligence Sword.
At the same time, she launched a flying kick at an ordinary Douki standing in the front line.
It was no ordinary flying kick, but a barrage of airborne kicks wrapped in blazing flames.
Enhanced by the Intelligence Sword and Transcend Armor, the attack effortlessly blasted the Douki away.
“«Crimson Fan»!”
Joan chained directly into the next move from «Blaze Kick».
Swinging her sword toward the blown-back Douki, she sent a blade-shaped flame flying.
Released from a broad sweeping motion like fanning something, the flaming sword spun violently as it slammed into the Douki, dealing both explosive and slashing damage simultaneously.
Meanwhile, slightly pushed back by the recoil of «Crimson Fan», Joan immediately linked into the next move to control the distance.
“«Blaze Riot»!”
Thrusting out her free hand, she unleashed a spell like a swirling vortex of flame gathering in her palm.
Several Douki were caught in it, and the moment Joan pulled her arm back, they were dragged toward her with tremendous force.
And as the Douki were pulled in, Joan followed up with yet another technique.
“«Rhino Cannon»!”
The flames gathered in her hand took the shape not of a rhino, but of a similar beast-like monster, launching as a heavy cannonball-like strike the instant she thrust out her fist.
The «Rhino Cannon», which engulfed multiple Douki at once, inflicted devastating damage on several directly hit, tearing away limbs.
But this was still merely the beginning.
The more techniques she unleashed, the more her synchronization increased, allowing even stronger techniques to be executed. That was the true strength of the Intelligence Sword.
Only now would its real destructive power emerge.
“«Demonic Inferno Edge»!”
Even the Douki that «Rhino Cannon» had failed to catch were swept up as a gigantic flame-wreathed sword slash cleaved through them.
The bursting hellfire and the all-out sword strike, swung upward after a full wind-up, bisected every Douki struck directly, causing them to vanish.
Having annihilated the Douki she had drawn in, Joan immediately set her sights on the next group.
“«Phoenix Claw Strike»!”
Leaping high, Joan cloaked herself in wing-like flames and dove straight into the center of the Douki horde.
Driving her sword into the ground with that momentum, the flames exploded.
The Douki that had raised their arms toward Joan, thinking it their chance, all flinched and froze.
“«Phoenix Rending Wave»!”
Joan then transferred the wing-shaped flames surrounding her onto her sword and unleashed a spinning slash.
The first rotation slashed through the surrounding Douki, while at the end of the second spin, the wing-shaped flames were hurled forward, striking even distant Douki.
Those caught in the attack were already at death’s door.
“Haaaaaahhh! I won’t lose! «Heavenly Vermillion Severance»!”
Joan wrapped herself in even larger flaming wings and charged toward even more distant Douki.
Even just the flames scattered around her during the charge inflicted severe damage on countless Douki.
The Douki struck directly by the charge vanished in a single blow.
Without pause, Joan followed with an upward slash as if taking flight, sending flames after the surrounding Douki.
Then, the instant she landed, she drove her sword into the ground once more, detonating flames again and damaging everything nearby.
That sequence alone slew countless Douki.
But she still was not finished.
“Burn to ashes! «Infernal Chains»!”
The flames she had scattered until now ignited fiercely, binding the Douki in place.
Then, wrapping her sword in a gigantic flaming blade, Joan charged through and cut down the immobilized horde in a single sweeping strike.
Every Douki that had survived while being caught in the flames until now was bisected by that one blow and annihilated.
