Not a single Douki appeared on the way to the dark region.
Most likely, they had sent all of their forces outside the Mediterranean. You could also say the enemy had prioritized using the darkness to consume and corrupt the territory surrounding the Mediterranean.
In any case, we managed to make it all the way to the very edge of the dark region.

As if it had sensed our arrival, new Douki began emerging one after another from the dark region.

The Douki spilling out of the dark region were probably hastily made, as their numbers were low and their quality poor.
Still, they kept pouring out without pause, so if I tried to rush in recklessly, I would be beaten from all sides.

The next moment, Yairo launched the first attack.

Countless metal rods pierced the Douki one after another.

Yairo then leapt into the air, flipped, and hurled metal rods in every direction.
Plain as they looked, those flying iron rods carried super-energy launched beyond the physical limits of normal phenomena, making their destructive power extraordinary.
As proof of that, the countless Douki that had been pouring out were drastically reduced in an instant.
Next, Marceline lowered her Intelligence Sword into stance and moved to attack.
“Receive this demon-cleaving sword strike bestowed upon me by Yūichi-sama!”
Crackling lightning-attributed magical power overflowed from the blade.
It amplified, stored, and released Marceline’s own natural attribute all at once.
A simple yet powerful mechanism, specially crafted for Marceline, who preferred swordsmanship over direct spellcasting.
“Here I come! «Excalibur»rrrrrrr!”
The Intelligence Sword unlocked its function through voice recognition. The charged lightning magic was unleashed alongside Marceline’s sweeping horizontal slash, wiping out countless Douki in one blow.
“Not yet! «Hammer of Judgment • Thor Hammer»!”
Moving fluidly, Marceline brought her sword down from an overhead stance.
The lightning magic released afterward crushed numerous Douki from above, grinding them apart.
A considerable number of Douki vanished under Marceline and Yairo’s attacks.
But even so, they kept pouring out endlessly. There was no end to them.
“Tch. I’m not done yet!”
As Marceline prepared to launch her next attack against the overflowing Douki...
Suddenly, the shadow at her feet shifted ever so slightly.
A bad feeling hit me.
“Marceline! Below you!”
“What?!”
Reacting to my shout, Marceline must have sensed the danger as well. She instinctively leapt back.
But she was one move too late.
A Douki emerged from the shadow.
It was smaller and slimmer than a normal Douki.
Most likely, it was a stealth-specialized Douki. We had failed to notice its existence until that very moment.
The stealth Douki sprang out from the shadows and attacked Marceline at the same instant.
She tried to counter with her Intelligence Sword, but it had already slipped into her guard, leaving her unable to fully respond.
The stealth Douki’s bare-handed strike landed directly, dealing damage even through the Transcend Armor.
“Guh!”
“You bastard!”
Yairo immediately threw metal rods to support her.
The stealth Douki was instantly destroyed and vanished.
But it was already too late.
“Marceline!”
I rushed over at once to check her injury.
The armor over her abdomen was broken, exposing a sliver of skin, and I could see the characteristic black corruption of the Douki spreading across it.
