Konbini Ossan Volume 15 Chapter 4 — On the Night of Resolve

Once it was decided that I would strike at Douki, the meeting progressed at a rapid pace.

The objective was for me to reach the dark region at the bottom of the Mediterranean, the area where Douki was being generated.

All available forces would be used to send me there, and then I would interfere with the dark region using the power of curse.

What happened after that, at best, would be adapting as circumstances demanded.

At worst, it was pure improvisation.

There were simply too many unknowns. Even if that was unavoidable, the plan depended almost entirely on my power of curse and my ability to respond on the spot.

No, it might not even deserve to be called a plan at all.

But it was also true that there was nothing else we could do.

Dealing with an endlessly multiplying monster equivalent to SSSSS stats was impossible to begin with.

It might be more accurate to say this was the only gamble that held any chance of turning things around.

That night, after the meeting ended, I sat on the veranda of the estate, gazing up at the moon, much like I had once before.

It had been the day Shirley and I met the Dragon God and returned, I think.

That was the day I had once again reflected on what truly mattered to me.

Not to live selfishly, but to live for my family.

That was the day I had resolved myself to that path.

Now, looking up at the moon in the same way, I realized my feelings had not wavered at all.

“Yūichi.”

Hearing my name, I turned to see Arisa approaching.

She sat down beside me, then placed her hand over mine.

“Hey... do you really have to go?”

At her question, I shook my head.

“You understand too, don’t you, Arisa?”

But...! I hate the thought that you might... disappear!

Tears spilling down her cheeks, Arisa cried out her feelings.

“I hate it! But... I can’t stop you. Because I know this is the best option.”

There was no need even to use her «Calculator» skill to reach that conclusion.

No one but me could oppose Douki.

The only hope lay in the potential of my power of curse.

Because she understood that.

Because she knew that if this gamble failed, a catastrophic future awaited.

That was why Arisa could not deny my decision.

“I’m sorry.”

I pulled Arisa close and apologized.

“No. I understand, so don’t apologize.”

Arisa buried her face in my chest.

As if to comfort her, I offered every reassurance I could.

“To begin with, it’s not certain that I’ll attain godhood in this battle. I’ll do everything I can to prevent that. I’ll do my best to come back safely. So... will you wait for me?”

“...Mm.”

At my words, Arisa gave a small nod.

Then she pulled away from me and took a small spherical magic tool from her pocket.

“This is an emergency teleportation magic activation device we’re developing at our place.
It costs enough to buy several noble estates, and it’s single-use, but it can activate magic that’ll bring you back here from anywhere in the world.”

As she spoke, Arisa handed the magic tool to me.

“So no matter what happens, you can come home. I’m giving this to you.”

Along with Arisa’s feelings, I accepted the teleportation magic tool.

“Thank you, Arisa.”

I drew her close and kissed her forehead.

The next day, not only Otogi Trading, but every force I could call upon through my own connections began moving to deal with Douki.

Naturally, all forces from the Great Forest Autonomous Region, including myself, departed for the Mediterranean as well.

And so, at last, the operation to exterminate Douki began.
