Konbini Ossan Volume 14 — The Reason for Becoming a God | | Chapter 1 — Aligning Our Understanding

Hero Avril had become a goddess.

And the conditions under which we summoned ones could ascend to godhood had, at least roughly, become possible to infer.

To share this information, I once again held a meeting with Arisa, Shuri-kun, and Matsuriya, the four of us together.

“I see. So if we organize the situation, that means...”

As before, Shuri-kun, participating via long-distance communication, spoke up.

“So the current risk is that if a Hero reaches all SSSSS stats, and then Heroes start killing each other, they become a god, right?”

“Yes, I believe that’s the case. And with that in mind, I thought we should discuss how far this information should be made public, and in what way.”

At my words, Matsuriya spoke with a grave expression.

“The information that cheat skills can be stolen through killing one another should not be released. Just as Hero Avril’s diary showed, it would only become the spark for unnecessary conflict.”

“Agreed. Which is why I’ve been wondering how we should make it known that summoned ones must not kill one another.”

To assume that no such conflict would arise even without warning people would be far too optimistic.

Considering the existence of Naitō, it wouldn’t be strange for there to be others willing to kill fellow summoned ones for their own goals.

And it wasn’t just the summoned ones connected to Otogi Trading.

There were still summoned ones under the control of the kingdom or noble houses.

We had to make sure information reached those summoned ones too, in a way that would properly discourage them from killing one another.

“Why not use the first concern?” Arisa suggested. “Like, spread word that if summoned ones kill each other, there’s a chance they’ll turn into monster-like abominations.”

“I see. Spread information containing part of the truth in a way that triggers instinctive revulsion.”

I nodded at Arisa’s suggestion.

It wasn’t impossible that some summoned ones might actually want to become monsters.

But surely that risk was far lower than the possibility of summoned ones killing each other with no warning at all.

“Using that for a general announcement is fine, but shouldn’t some people be told at least part of the truth?” Matsuriya said.

“For example, Kēichi should be told that killing other summoned ones allows skills to be stolen, and that this becomes one of the conditions for ascending to godhood.”

“That’s true. Those in positions of responsibility, and those who might actually fulfill the conditions for ascension, should be given more detailed information, at least enough to know how to avoid it.”

Kanehama’s stats were, if I remembered correctly, all SSSS.

Among all summoned ones besides me, he was the closest to the ERROR display.

Given Kanehama’s strong sense of justice and his previous opposition to Naitō, it was entirely possible he might kill a hostile summoned one without knowing the consequences, thereby fulfilling one of the conditions for godhood.

There were likely others with high stats whom we trusted enough to inform properly as well.

“Then for summoned ones with especially high stats, starting with Kanehama, we’ll explain the avoidance methods, provided we trust them not to leak the information, while still withholding the exact conditions for becoming a god.”

“Specifically: don’t kill fellow summoned ones, and don’t level up too much. Something like that should work, right?” Shuri-kun suggested.

“Then let’s go with that.”

I decided to accept Shuri-kun’s proposal.

At this point, it was fair to say we had mostly decided how to handle the information we’d uncovered.

“Well then, let’s move on to the next topic.”

I shifted the discussion.

“The conditions under which summoned ones ascend to godhood. Now that we’ve gathered considerably more information, we should be able to analyze them in greater detail. Let’s examine it once more from the beginning.”

E/N:

If only Avril had more friends she could trust… That's kinda sad, man…

Stay tuned!
