Konbini Ossan Volume 12 Chapter 8 — Dragon God Cavern
The following day, we headed to the village chief in order to hear the Dragon God’s response to our request.
“The Dragon God-sama has said that He will meet with our guest.”
However, the village chief wore a troubled expression.
“Is there some kind of problem?”
“Yes. The Dragon God-sama is willing to meet with you, however… the shrine maiden…”
The village chief shook his head.
“She refuses to accompany our guest. The other shrine maidens have also been told not to go by the head shrine maiden, so it will be difficult to have any of them accompany you either.”
“I see. In other words, even if I meet the Dragon God-sama like this, I would be unable to communicate with Him.”
“That is correct.”
However, it did not seem that this issue itself was what truly troubled the village chief.
“In truth, the head shrine maiden said she would accompany you under certain conditions.”
It seemed this was the real matter at hand.
“She said that if we cast Shirley out from the village and promise never to allow her to return again, then she would agree to accompany you.”
(E/N: Is this hate that deep? Get a life!)
I see. So that was why the village chief was troubled.
“Yūichi-san, I…”
Shirley started to say something, but I raised a hand to stop her and spoke first.
“Shirley will accompany me, so there is no problem.”
“But Shirley-”
“I can protect her with my skills. If it begins affecting her condition, then we will turn back midway.”
At my words, the village chief looked directly at me with a serious expression.
“You are capable of that?”
“Yes.”
Without averting my gaze, I waited for the village chief’s response.
At times, the village chief shifted his eyes away from me and toward Shirley instead.
After a long pause, he let out a breath and finally spoke.
“Very well. I shall permit the two of you to enter the ‘Dragon God Cavern’, the place where the Dragon God-sama resides.”
It seemed we would finally be able to meet the Dragon God safely.
“Thank you very much.”
“It is nothing. You seemed confident, after all. Besides, Shirley herself trusts you completely without uttering a single complaint. It would hardly be right for me to refuse.”
And so, we successfully obtained permission from the village chief.
Now, it was time to head toward the ‘Dragon God Cavern’ where the Dragon God resided.
On the way to the Dragon God Cavern, I noticed the head shrine maiden we had seen yesterday glaring at us from afar.
Seeing that caused Shirley to shrink back slightly, so I gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“There is no need to worry. Let us go together.”
At my words, the tension left Shirley’s shoulders.
“Yes. Let’s go, Yūichi-san!”
