Soul Devourer Chapter 4 Episode 43 — Duel in The Wasteland
The man let his longsword hang loosely at his side, while I held the《Sea Dragon's Naval Aglyphs》in both hands.
A dry wind swept across the wasteland, brushing past our killing intent.
The instant our gazes collided, our shadows kicked off the ground at the same time.
The distance between us vanished in a blink. The moment longsword and daggers clashed, violent sparks burst forth and the sound of metal rang across the ruins.
At first we were evenly matched, but only for a few seconds. The pressure shifted. My daggers began steadily forcing his longsword back.
Shock flashed across the man’s face. Realizing the difference in our Strength, he hurriedly slid his blade sideways, trying to deflect the trajectory of my dagger.
But I read his intention instantly.
I pulled my dagger back and, in one fluid motion, twisted my body into a roundhouse kick. The strike tore through the air, yet the man kicked off the ground and leapt backward, narrowly evading it.
Distance opened between us once more. Silence settled.
The man stared at the hand gripping his sword and let out a voice tinged with disbelief.
「…Hahaha. I thought you were just some hunter from a weak country, but looks like your Strength’s higher than mine. This might actually be fun!」
He grinned.
I didn’t understand what was amusing.
But I had no intention of playing along.
With hundreds, maybe thousands, of reserves still waiting, I couldn’t afford to waste time on a single opponent.
…Sorry to cut your fun short… I’ll end this in an instant!
He moved first. Swinging his longsword, he unleashed a flying slash. Then, chasing right behind his own attack, he closed the distance in one surge.
I swung my daggers and released a flying slash of my own.
It wasn’t a clash.
My slash shattered his, and without losing momentum, attempted to cleave him in two as well.
「What-!?」
Startled by the destruction of his attack, he twisted his body in a panic and barely avoided my slash.
But by then, I had already closed the gap.

The scenery blurred in an instant, and in the span of a heartbeat, I slipped into his guard. His reaction speed was certainly high, his longsword, filled with killing intent, shot toward my neck.

Without question, they were skilled fighters. But even the man I just killed was only on par with the three leader-class hunters who attacked Japan.
They weren’t opponents who would force me into a struggle.

Holding that selfish expectation in my chest, I focused my attention on the enemies before me.
