Konbini Ossan Volume 11 — The Future of The Summoned || Chapter 1 — Re-employment of The Summoned

Half a year has passed since the incident caused by Naitō, and since his death.

The post-war processing of the three nations ravaged by Naitō has settled down, and Otogi Company took advantage of this opportunity to expand its stores and factories into those nations.

Thus, Otogi Company has become a multinational corporation, and is currently in the process of gradually relocating its base of operations to the Great Forest Autonomous Region within the Demon Lord’s territory, under the pretense of a “Demon Lord Territory: Main Store.”

Facilities are being constructed along the outer edge of the forest, and for now, the minimum necessary technology development departments and production factories have been relocated to the Great Forest Autonomous Region.

Naturally, I and all of my wives have also moved here.

At last, a business model that does not rely on the Runegard Kingdom is beginning to take shape.

In addition to Otogi Company’s relocation, many summoned individuals have also moved to the Great Forest Autonomous Region.

Due to the conflict with Naitō’s faction and the experience of actual war, the number of summoned individuals who dislike work related to combat has increased sharply.

Taking advantage of the post-war confusion, Otogi Company secured custody of them all. They are now helping with work unrelated to war, namely the development of the new base in the Great Forest Autonomous Region.

In this way, many of the summoned have become able to work as ordinary people.

“Hey, Prez!”

As I was inspecting the developing land, I heard someone call out to me.

When I turned around, it was Suzuno. Even now, she remains one of the few summoned individuals who continue to be active as an adventurer involved in combat.

“What is it?”

“It’s about my party members. Do you have a moment?”

“Yes, that’s fine.”

“Then let’s talk while we walk!”

At Suzuno’s invitation, we began talking while strolling through the developing forest.

As we walked through the forest, now brighter after selectively thinning the overly dense trees, Suzuno began to speak.

“You remember how everyone except me was undecided about whether to continue being adventurers?”

“Yes, of course. I also remember you coming to tell me personally that you wouldn’t quit being an adventurer.”

“Hehe. Thanks, Prez.”

Suzuno smiled shyly.

But she quickly composed herself.

“To get straight to it, everyone in my party has decided to return to being adventurers.”

“I see.”

Unable to find the right words to respond to that resolve, I ended up giving a somewhat simple reply.

However, Suzuno continued without concern.

“Shōzō said something, you know. ‘Fighting isn’t cool at all. But that’s exactly why I don’t want to give up now’. He’s being stubborn about it.”

“I see. But I won’t deny that decision.”

Surely, Mayama must have complicated feelings. Even so, he chose to continue working as an adventurer.

Even if it’s completely different from war, deciding to continue a profession that involves violence must not have been easy.

“I figured you’d say that, Prez. Honestly, I can’t really talk about Shōzō either. The old me was pretty hopeless, the worst even. But even I was lucky.
When I think about how there are people who’ve gone through way worse than me, I can’t help it… even if it’s lame, I still want to help.”

Suzuno-san said this while scratching her cheek in embarrassment.

“I think everyone else feels the same way. And, well… part of that is because you helped us out a lot, Prez.”

“Well, um, it’s not that much.”

“Hehe. But we’re all grateful. Thanks, Prez! That’s what I wanted to say today!”

With that, Suzuno took off running, returning to her work, protecting those engaged in development from monsters as an adventurer.

“See you, Prez!”

“Yes, do your best!”

I raised my hand in farewell as I watched Suzuno run off.
