Konbini Ossan Volume 10 Chapter 8 — Two-Day Weekend System
The invasion operation carried out by Otogi Trading’s defense forces proceeded smoothly.
While the first city we reached put up significant resistance, there were only sporadic, small-scale counterattacks afterwards, resulting in only a single major battle.
Even so, we managed to reach halfway to the capital of the Barometz Duchy.
The lack of enemy resistance certainly helped, but more than that, the overwhelming speed of advance provided by our armored vehicles played a major role.
That said, defenses are bound to grow stronger from here on. It’s not hard to imagine that a major battle awaits us.
Amid all this, we finally received word from Shuri-kun, Matsuriya, and Metidovan, who had remained in the rear, that they had completed a detailed analysis of Naitō’s skill.
Additionally, the three of them would soon be joining us.
With anticipation for the long-awaited results, I waited for their arrival.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Otogin!”
The next day, Shuri-kun arrives and immediately throws himself at me.
“I’ve been waiting. So, the analysis is complete?”
“Yep. Let’s get straight to a strategy meeting!”
With that, I bring the three of them to the tent we are using as a strategy room.
Inside, Kanehama and Marceline are already waiting.
“Well then, let’s begin with the report on the analysis.”
At my prompt, Shuri-kun begins the explanation.
“First, after interrogating multiple prisoners, we figured out the conditions under which Naitō’s skill applies mind control. Everyone under its influence had been subjected to actions by Naitō that ‘stirred their desires and impulses’.”
Inciting desires, huh. That’s quite a vague activation condition.
“After having their desires stirred up by Naitō, most people experienced an unnatural loss of those emotions. From that point on, they could no longer defy his orders.”
“In other words, his skill grants mind control by using the target’s emotions as the price,”
Metidovan adds to Shuri-kun’s explanation.
“Since it replaces the target’s own emotions, there is no need for maintenance or mana supply to sustain the control. It naturally clings to the target’s mind at all times, drawing internal mana when necessary.
…
Furthermore, with their desires gone, the will to resist their current situation becomes weak. It is an extraordinarily rational skill.”
At Metidovan’s assessment, everyone present, including myself, tightens their expression. As expected, Naitō’s skill is extremely troublesome.
“And once we figured that out, we ran further experiments based on a hypothesis”, Shuri-kun continues.
“If desires are being taken as the price, then restoring those desires might cancel the mind control, or at least weaken it. So we tried various ways to stimulate Nomura’s desires…”
For some reason, Matsuriya blushes at those words. I’m curious what exactly they did, but now is not the time to ask.
(E/N: Now is exactly the time to ask!! What the hell did this "girl" do with Nomura, yo?!?! 🤣)
“And just like that, Nomura’s mind control was completely broken!”
Shuri-kun spreads his arms confidently as he reports the result.
“With this, we’ve basically established a countermeasure against Naitō’s skill!”
“Indeed. Based on these findings, future invasion operations will be significantly more advantageous.”
I nod, already considering how this will shape our next moves.
“So, Otogin. Now that you’ve got the results, have you come up with a good plan?”
“Yes, of course.”
A plan has already begun to take shape in my mind.
“Let’s see… We’ll call it the “Two-Day Weekend” Operation.”
At the name I declare, everyone present shows somewhat awkward expressions.
But the operation itself is entirely serious.
Now then, let’s work out the details of the plan.
