Soul Devourer Chapter 4 Episode 36 — Encounter With The Brawling King
I placed my hand on the heavy door of the boss chamber and slowly pushed it open. With a groan of creaking hinges, a stream of cold air flowed out through the gap.
Crushing fallen dry branches beneath my feet, I stepped forward, one step, then another, into the withered forest. As I advanced deeper, the scenery suddenly opened up.
That place alone felt like a domain apart. Not a single dead tree stood there.
In the center of the clearing, a “throne” constructed from layers upon layers of piled dead branches, warped in shape yet radiating intimidation, sat in solemn presence.
“…A boss room with a throne. That’s a first.”
The unprecedented sight made my feet stop unconsciously.
At that very moment, eleven spheres of light slowly descended from above.
The orbs halted directly before the throne and began to intensify, shining so brightly that they swallowed my entire field of vision.
I covered my eyes with my right arm and could only wait for the light to converge.
And then-
The brilliance subsided. Lowering my arm, I regained my sight.
Standing in formation before the throne were Infight Monkeys.
And…
“Ten Infight Monkeys, just like usual… and that arrogant-looking giant ape sitting on the throne. You’re the boss of this dungeon, aren’t you?”
Since it remained seated, I couldn’t determine its exact height, but it was roughly three meters tall. In stark contrast to the black fur of the Infight Monkeys, its coat was pure white, like fresh snow.
Golden beastly eyes gleamed as they pierced straight through me.
The moment our gazes met, a prickling sensation ran across my skin. I understood instantly.
This was the presence of a true powerhouse.
“…Hanuman, huh.”
A king commanding Infight Monkeys, each of whom rivaled upper S-rank hunters. There was no way it wouldn’t be strong.
Even from the status displayed by【Discernment】, its power was evident.
Level 100. The majority of its skills had reached Level 10.
And more than anything…
It possessed numerous “Enhancement-type skills” that monsters should not have.
Every monster I had faced before, no matter how troublesome their unique abilities, had never grown stronger mid-battle.
But Hanuman was different. Like a hunter, it would become progressively stronger as the fight went on.
There were likely two enhancement phases.
First phase: activating non-time-limited skills such as【Herculean Strength】,【Rampartification】, and【Dash】, doubling its ability values.
Second phase: stacking time-limited【Physical Boost】on top, pushing its ability values to four times their base.
If Hanuman’s individual stats were around 1,000, they could rise to roughly 4,000 at maximum. The combined strength of the four S-rank dungeon bosses I had defeated so far.
Even so-
The gap between us was still nearly twentyfold. Simple strikes wouldn’t deal damage. At best, they would merely send me flying.
“In other words, even restricting myself to【Martial Arts】shouldn’t be a problem. For a king of combat-specialized monkeys, this is perfect to refine my technique even further.”
Hanuman did not move from its throne. Perhaps the composure of a king, or perhaps it was weighing my worth.
Instead, the Infight Monkeys lined up before the throne simultaneously lowered their stances, clenched their fists, and bared their killing intent.
“I’ve fought your kind plenty already. As for you lot, it’s time for an early exit!”
My own fighting spirit flared, and I kicked off the ground with force.
Splitting the wind, I charged straight at the ten Infight Monkeys.
