Soul Devourer Chapter 3 Episode 41 — Level 100 and a New Title

After swallowing all the Ogre Shark corpses, the Megalodon became completely motionless, and its body began to flicker.

As I watched with anticipation to see what kind of mutation it would undergo, the Megalodon’s body shone with a blinding light, forcing me to cover my eyes.

When the light that enveloped the boss room finally settled and I lowered my hand, opening my eyes, what stood there was no longer a shark… it was a dragon.

It was roughly one hundred meters long, and unlike the Fire Dragon, it had a long, slender body completely covered in tough dragon scales.

Its name was Sea Serpent, and rather than a dragon, it evoked the image of a true eastern dragon.

(E/N: As usual in WNs like this, the dragon here is [ 龍 ] which are the traditional serpentine (snake-like), benevolent water deities of Asia while, western dragons, with noticeable wings and limbs, are categorised under [ 竜 ] by writers nowadays. Or they can be simply written as [ ドラゴン ]. Just FYI!)


It mutated into an entirely different species… fascinating!

As I rapidly closed the distance through the water, the Sea Serpent opened its massive jaws and unleashed a spiraling breath attack.

I was instantly swallowed by the breath and violently spun around before being flung back into the sea.

As my sense of direction was temporarily numbed, the Sea Serpent circled around me, enclosing the area and generating a massive vortex.

Then, within that vortex, blades of water formed through【Water Magic】, slicing into my body from all directions.

A normal hunter would suffocate and bleed to death, only to be devoured by the Sea Serpent in the end.

My diving suit had been shredded to pieces, but the areas protected by equipment like the《Magic Carapace Armor of Queen Ant》 and the skin beneath didn’t suffer so much as a single cut, let alone bleeding.

Besides, I was starting to get used to the violent motion of the vortex.

It’s about time I counterattack!


“«Daiuzu • Maelstrom», «Water Slash»!”


I activated【Water Magic】, engulfing the vortex created by the Sea Serpent and wresting control from it.

The Sea Serpent was trapped within the massive whirlpool, desperately resisting as it continued swimming along the current.

Soon after, sturdy blades of water were added to the vortex, carving into the Sea Serpent’s body.

Because there was a large gap between my Intelligence and the Sea Serpent’s Spirit, the wounds on its body steadily increased, and blood began to seep into the water.

Then, locking onto the Sea Serpent as it struggled for breath, I fired a Torpedo with【Lightning Magic】, bringing the fierce underwater battle to an end.

Lot's of things to say about this chapter!

First of all, a new title after nearly two Volumes?! Nice!

Second, I now have a clue why Yuito was using English spells like, «Sword Rain» or «Flare» which were written in katakana! Most probably, these spells are basic or intermediate magic. While those with double incantations, like that〈Grimm Reaper〉Debuff Magician was using, were probably composite or advanced magic spells.

That way, the «Maelstrom» spell was an advanced spell, which, in conjunction with the basic/intermediate spell «Water Slash», did the Sea Serpent in! After all, his Intelligence stat is out of norm!

Phew… Anyway, the skill obtained from Sea Serpent was tl-ed as【Raging Currents】so I changed it to【Riptide】! Sorry for all the yap!
