Konbini Ossan Volume 8 Chapter 28 — Hero vs. Demon King
At my signal, Kanehama and Toudou dash forward.
“I’ll support you!”
Mimori casts support magic toward the two of them. Their already tremendous physical abilities rise even further.
“Hm.”
Facing the approaching Kanehama and Toudou, Vladgaria wears a composed expression.
Kanehama reaches her first and swings his sword… only for Vladgaria to catch it with one hand.
“What?!”
“Support magic is meaningless against me.”
Kanehama’s blade was wreathed in light magic, further enhanced by Mimori’s support.
Yet Vladgaria dispels it effortlessly. The result is nothing more than an ordinary sword strike, insufficient to pierce through her magical power and stamina.
“Then I’ll-!”
From the side where Kanehama and Vladgaria face off, Toudou cuts in.
Though his support magic has likewise been dispelled, he attacks with a sword strike that relies not on magic but on pure technique and strength.
But even that fails to break through.
“Still not enough!”
Vladgaria brushes aside Toudou’s strike with her free hand. She remains completely uninjured.
The sheer density of magical power protecting her body must be immense.
Vladgaria, and indeed many within the Demon King’s army, fight by coating their bodies in magic as though wearing armor. Leonis and Satira did the same.
Among us humans, some fight that way as well, but generally we rely on equipment for defense. The magic that naturally overflows from the body provides only limited protection.
A difference of race, or perhaps culture. In any case, the contrast in fighting styles is fascinating.
While I consider this, the battle moves into its next phase.
Kanehama and Toudou press Vladgaria together, and she handles them with apparent ease. Yet the time they buy allows Matsuriya and Mimori to unleash large-scale magic.
“Take this!”
First, Matsuriya releases a massive offensive spell. A complex, high-powered magic formed by combining fire, lightning, wind, and frost.
Bringing together entirely different attributes produces something akin to a magical bomb; a dense mass of power hurtling straight toward Vladgaria.
“Ngh-! Impressive!”
Even Vladgaria cannot erase a spell of this magnitude without effort. She creates distance from Kanehama and Toudou and concentrates on nullifying Matsuriya’s magic.
“Now!”
That is when Mimori follows up. She activates barrier magic, not to strengthen allies, but to weaken the opponent.
By confining Vladgaria within the barrier, she suppresses the magical protection surrounding her body.
In other words, attacks that previously failed to land can now strike true.
“Hah!”
“Take this!”
Kanehama and Toudou attack simultaneously. With Vladgaria focused on erasing Matsuriya’s spell, she lacks the leeway to nullify the magic imbued in their strikes.
“Guh-!”
Her expression twists in frustration.
In the next instant, their attacks connect. Then, her concentration broken by the impact, the portion of Matsuriya’s spell she failed to fully erase also strikes.
A tremendous explosion erupts, obscuring the area in smoke.
“Did we get her?”
(E/N: C'mon man!)
Toudou, perhaps carelessly, mutters as he peers through the smoke toward Vladgaria.
As if that were a flag…
The next moment, the lingering smoke from the blast is blown away.
“Not bad at all! It was an attack I could not fully withstand without ceasing to hold back with my Demon Eye and concentrating on magic!”
Vladgaria emerges as she scatters the smoke, her voice almost amused.
There is a thin line of blood upon her cheek.
“What a monster…”
Kanehama gives a wry smile, as if to say this will not be easy.
