Soul Devourer Chapter 3 Episode 23 — Three Individuals Whose Strength Is Unknown
A large man, apparently one of the hunters belonging to〈Kowloon〉, closed the distance in an instant while caving in the ground beneath his feet, swinging his fist straight at my face.
I could easily keep up with his movements, so I placed my hand against the side of his massive fist and deflected its trajectory.
Lightly hopping in place, I then unleashed a roundhouse kick aimed at his face.
“Guh…!”
The man hastily blocked his face with his left arm and slid backward, carving two long lines into the ground.
“Guildmaster, please move over to where Kikuchi-san and the recovery team are. If you stay here, you’ll just be in the way.”
“Ah, got it.”
After seeing the guild master off, I shifted my gaze back to the man approaching me, lightly rolling the left arm that had taken my kick.
“Khahahaha! Never thought I’d be sent flying by a kick.”
“How arrogant.”
“No, that’s not it. In my country, there are guys who can fight me evenly, and others I don’t even come close to. I know there’s always someone stronger.”
“…”
“But you wouldn’t expect to find someone like that in a backwater country like this. Compared to my country, the hunter population and competition here are on a completely different level.”
(E/N: We'll get to know why he called Japan a backwater country within this Volume so just hold your horses and enjoy the ride!)
“I see. So you’ve survived that harsh environment and competition, and yet this is all you’ve got…? I’m disappointed.”
“Hahaha, you’ve got a mouth on you! Fine, I’ll get serious with you — ow!?”
Just as I was provoking him and getting him fired up, a man and a woman who had come out of the Hunter Guild rushed over to his side, and the woman smacked him on the head.
「What do you think you’re doing, charging in on your own!? You were told to take on that person of concern with multiple people, weren’t you!?」
「Come on, I said I was sorry! I just couldn’t help wondering how strong he really was!」
「This is why battle junkies are such a pain… so, how was it? How strong is he?」
「He pushed me back that far with a light kick. At the very least, he’s on par with us, maybe even stronger.」
「I see. Then let’s stay sharp.」
「Yeah. Leave the support to me!」
「Alright, let’s do this!」
They were conversing in Chinese, probably, so I didn’t understand them, but judging from the fighting spirit in their eyes and the way they took up combat stances, they were clearly raring to go.
At the moment, my【Discernment】was Level 8.
Based on the results of the fights I’ve had so far, my current self should have been able to see the status of hunters up to A-rank.
However, I couldn't see the statuses of these three.
They were at least S-Rank, but judging from how the man didn’t see Japan’s S-Rank Hunters as much of a threat, they were likely at the upper end of S-Rank.
Could it be that they possess Unique Skills…?
Their individual strength was unknown, and I was outnumbered. If I held back too much, I might lose.
(E/N: No, Yuito-san, your dialogue is “Nah, I'd win. Datte kimi yowaimon!” 😂 😂)
Steeling myself once more, I pulled《Balmung》from my《Magic Pouch》and leveled the blade at them.

E/N:
I had too much fun while editing! Apologies! Anyway, Kowloon (Nine Dragons) should change name to "Nine Tails between Legs". What a menace, what arrogance and cowardice!
Also, please note:
From this chapter onwards, clan names will be enclosed within〈〉brackets with bold text while conversations in foreign language, especially the ones that Yuito or any other character doesn't explicitly understand, will be enclosed within「」brackets with italicised text.
Stay tuned!
