Soul Devourer Chapter 3 Episode 20 — The Gathering of S-Ranks and the Purpose of the Riot
After checking out of the hotel, I boarded the dedicated helicopter and headed for the Hunter Guild headquarters.
Once I arrived, I was guided straight to the Guildmaster’s office. When I entered at his gesture, there were three men and women there besides the Guildmaster.
Two of them were familiar.
One was Karen Miura, the Clanmaster of「Ifrit Legion」, known as the Hellblaze Empress.
Another was Honoka Kikuchi, the Clanmaster of「Valkyries of Restoration」, known as the Sacred Matriarch.
And the last person was —
“Hey, nice to meet you. I’m Tensei Suzuki, the Clanmaster of「King of Swords」. Pleasure to meet you.”
I shook the hand he extended with a refreshing smile.
I see. This is Tensei Suzuki, Japan’s first S-rank hunter, also known as the Fatal Blade.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Yuito Matsubara. It’s a pleasure.”
“I’ve been watching your exploits with great interest. The birth of a powerful hunter capable of solo-clearing S-rank dungeons is wonderful news for the country, and even more so when that hunter is a young man with a future.”
“Thank you.”

Hearing this from the guild master, the three of them instinctively turned toward me, looking at me with fear in their eyes.
“Hunter Matsubara is the victim here. The reason this happened lies with us, the Hunter Guild. Because we treated them leniently simply for being one of the few S-rank hunters, we allowed them to grow arrogant.”
“…I see.”
“Well, I figured they’d pull something sooner or later.”
“Serves them right.”
“This matter must never be leaked outside. Regardless of the circumstances, news of an S-rank hunter being lost would cause public panic and give other countries an opening.”
“Understood.”
“Got it.”
“I acknowledge that.”
“Now then, back to the matter at hand. We interrogated the「Grimm Reaper」members that you all captured, but… we obtained no information at all.”
“Why is that?”
“They all spout the same thing, that the clan's four executives simply ordered them to ‘cause riots like this.’

They had no idea what the purpose was. And apparently, they were given no instructions whatsoever for after the riots.”
“That’s troublesome. Without knowing their clear intent or objective, it’s hard to decide how to respond.”
“Did you get any information at all on the four executives who issued the orders, or the master who leads them?”
“No. The four executives conceal themselves behind white masks and pitch-black robes, and as for the master, it seems no one has ever seen them even once.”

“At this point, there’s only one move left. We seize the「Grimm Reaper」base.”
“They might have already vanished from it, though.”
“We know where the base is. However, since we don’t know how much hidden strength they still have, I want all of you to move together and suppress the base.”
Everyone, myself included, who had been listening in silence nodded, and we left the Hunter Guild.
The other three would head to the base with their clan members using their own transportation. I, meanwhile, went with the Guildmaster by car toward the base.
