Konbini Ossan Volume 7 Chapter 35 — The Times Move On
With Otsugi Trading Company expanding across a wide range of businesses, its growth accelerated at a remarkable pace.
Not only did its financial strength increase, but its technological capabilities advanced dramatically as well.
By making full use of abundant funds, resources, and personnel, development of the Magi-Computer, which was our original goal, continued steadily.
And then, roughly three years after the founding of Otsugi Trading Company.
At last, a practical Magi-Computer was completed.
Furthermore, we succeeded in networking these Magi-Computers together.
By constructing towers that emitted magical wave signals rather than radio waves, and turning them into base stations, communication became possible with virtually any location across the entirety of the Runegard Kingdom.
As a result, all subsidiaries and stores of Otsugi Trading Company became connected through the Magic Network.
Thanks to this, we were able to change how we issued instructions to each region.
Until then, orders had been sent through Otsugi Transport, but now everything could be handled via Magi-Computers.
Regardless of location, instructions could be issued almost instantly, with virtually no time lag, and reports could likewise be sent back immediately.
Using this Magic Network, we also built a system to remain vigilant against external threats.
A radar-like system capable of detecting the coordinates of entities with high magical power was installed at every base station.
This made it possible to constantly monitor the presence of powerful beings anywhere within the Runegard Kingdom.
In other words, if a highly dangerous external enemy were to infiltrate the kingdom, they could be discovered immediately.
We could even determine what routes they were taking and what locations they were heading toward.
With this system in place, even if an executive of the Demon Lord’s Army were to secretly infiltrate the Runegard Kingdom, they would not escape detection.
As a result, ensuring the safety of the summoned heroes affiliated with Otsugi Trading Company, as well as Arisa and myself, became far easier.
Under these circumstances, Arisa and I were riding in a Magi-Carriage, heading toward a certain building newly constructed near the royal capital.
Roads dedicated to Magi-Carriage had already been developed, and although the site lay some distance from the capital, access was not inconvenient.
“To think, we finally made it this far.”
As I drove the Magi-Carriage, I spoke to Arisa, who was seated beside me.
“We’ve gained funding. We’ve gained power. We’ve secured enough strength. Now, it finally feels like we can achieve our original goal.”
“You mean that thing about securing your and my safety, right?”
“Yeah.”
Nodding at Arisa’s words, I continued.
“But this isn’t the end. There are still plenty of external enemies and potential dangers out there. In fact, now that Otsugi Trading Company has grown this large, you could say the number of possible adversaries has increased as well.”
“Doesn’t that mean there’s no end to it?”
“Well, yeah. But I think there has to be a point where we draw a line.”
Saying that, I went on to explain my plans going forward.
“Up until now, we’ve worked to build strength for defense. Which, put another way, means we’ve been leaving the enemies themselves alone all this time.”
“So that means?”
“It means things are going to change from here on out.”
Just as I finished saying that, we arrived at our destination.
Stepping out of the Magi-Carriage, I looked up at the massive building towering before us.
“This is where it starts. From our castle, the Otsugi Trading Company Headquarters Building, the next battle begins.”
Yes.
This gigantic structure was the Otsugi Trading Company Headquarters, constructed through sheer financial power.
With this new base, a headquarters building that could be called a fortress, equipped with countless functions, I was finally stepping into the next stage.
Eliminating clear enemies that already existed, as well as risks that could give rise to future enemies.
I took the first step toward that goal.
