Soul Devourer Chapter 2 Episode 2 — Evasion Beyond Vision

News of the birth of the fifth S-Rank Hunter spread nationwide across TV and the internet, drawing massive attention, but I was already headed toward a dungeon I hadn’t visited before.

When I arrived and stepped out of the taxi, one person after another began to notice me, and the area started buzzing.

Even so, no one approached me carelessly.

I wasn’t giving off an intimidating aura on purpose, but since I was an S-Rank Hunter capable of defeating powerful monsters, people understandably felt a bit of fear.

When I started walking, the Hunters in front of me instinctively cleared a path, allowing me to complete the entry process without delay.

Once inside the dungeon, I found myself surrounded by a field of blooming flowers in all colors.

Visibility was excellent, and I could clearly see what monsters the other Hunters were fighting.

A giant moth-like monster, about one meter long including the head and body, with wings spanning two meters when open.

This was a B-rank dungeon, so the giant moth — a Miasma Moth — posed no threat at all. The skills it possessed were ones I already knew.

Well, for me it was just fodder, but its rank was equal to a troll. Without being at least a mid-level Hunter, defeating it would be difficult.

I approached an individual peacefully sipping nectar from a flower.

Sensing my presence, it beat its wings and ascended. Hovering just above eye level, it continued to flap.

With each flap, glittering motes of ultrafine powder shimmered down, making my nose tingle.

Although I have【Toxin Resistance】, that powder probably has toxic effects.

Thanks to my high mental strength and【Toxin Resistance】, I wasn’t poisoned at all, and the Miasma Moth just kept repeating the same behavior.

It didn’t seem to have any interesting attack patterns, so I cut it down with movements too fast for normal perception.

I continued defeating every Miasma Moth I encountered and soon found the entrance.

Since I hadn’t used much stamina, I skipped resting and pushed open the boss room door.

When I reached the center of the room, a light orb descended from above and flared brilliantly.

The monster that appeared was similar in size to the Miasma Moth, but its wings had no patterns — a pure white butterfly.

I immediately used【Discrenment】to check its status, and one particular skill caught my eye.

The name gives me an idea, but I want to see how it actually works for myself!

I tore my attention away from the butterfly’s — the Psyche’s — stats and gripped Balmung.

Just like the moths, Psyche scattered scales into the air. From its skill list, the scales apparently had a sleep effect.

I didn’t have【Sleep Resistance】, but with my high spirit stat, I doubted I’d collapse instantly, so I closed the distance at once.

When I swung the longsword down, Psyche’s body vanished — and I felt a presence behind me. Turning around, I saw Psyche unharmed, fluttering its wings and scattering scales again.

It hadn’t moved faster than I could perceive. It was as if it simply disappeared from where it had been.

“Hahaha!”

I tried several more attacks to confirm my suspicion — each time, it evaded as though blinking out of existence.

Finally, I activated【Stealth】to vanish, then used【Ki Surge】to heighten my explosive power and closed in instantly.

Moving faster than Psyche could register, I split it cleanly in two.
