Konbini Ossan Volume 5 Chapter 7 — Applying the Iron-Blood Skill

I rushed to the scene of the battle. The adventurer was already fighting, having taken down several orcs.

“You can fight?”

He must have noticed me.

“Orcs aren’t a problem.”

“Then I’m counting on you!”

He said that and ran off to support another area. Three orcs remained here, and it looked like they’d been left to me.

There was one guard from the caravan still standing, but he was injured and barely able to fight. They seemed to be counting on me quite a lot.

Well, they’d better count higher.

“Let’s make this quick.”

So far, there didn’t seem to be any casualties among the merchants, but it was only a matter of time. The faster I ended this, the better.

I got into a fighting stance and activated «Plague».

The skin on my hand broke out in disease-like sores, turning purple and swollen. Blood welled up — enough to trigger the condition needed to use «Iron Blood».

In battles where I needed to activate Iron Blood instantly, I often used «Plague» like this — wounding myself in a controlled way to draw blood. This time was no different.

Once ready, I rushed at the nearest orc. My arm swung like a whip as I unleashed the skill — summoning a blade of orichalcum mid-swing.

Iron Blood could create and manipulate metal freely, but with a bit of creativity, its power increased exponentially.

Instead of forming a rigid blade, I let it bend as I brought it out — matching the motion of my arm, like a steel whip.

The result was an orichalcum lash that struck with both cutting and whipping force.

As it sliced, I reabsorbed the blade into my body, sharpening the cut further — the perfect draw slice.

The orc split cleanly in two, as if its body had been made of paper.

“Wh–what?!”

The wounded guard gasped behind me, but I had no time to acknowledge him. Two more orcs, enraged by their comrade’s death, roared and charged.

Even together, they were no threat. I cleaved one apart with another orichalcum strike and blocked the second with a conjured orichalcum shield.

Their strength couldn’t shake me — our stats were simply too far apart. I shoved the shield forward, breaking its stance, and cut the orc down in one smooth motion.

“Th-thank you…”

“Hold this position for me.”

Leaving the shaken guard behind, I ran toward the next cluster of enemies.

Soon, after felling a number of orcs, a massive one appeared — clearly the leader.

“The general of the pack, I suppose.”

I muttered and slashed at it like the others. It tried to dodge — faster than the rest — but not fast enough. My blade cut through its torso, splitting it in half.

“Damn, you’re strong.”

The adventurer approached, glancing around. The rest of the orcs were dead or fleeing. The battle was over.

I dropped my stance and turned to him.

“Well, I was an adventurer once.”

“No kidding. That famous magic tool shop, huh…”

He sounded surprised, but also convinced. Many adventurers retired into trades, so it wasn’t too strange.

“Still, taking out a General Orc in one hit? That’s A-rank level at least.”

“I’d say that’s accurate.”

“With that power, why run a shop? You’d earn more as an adventurer.”

“Oh, I’m earning much more — and much safer — this way.”

“Huh. Guess that’s fair.”

“Yes, it is.”

We chatted idly as we returned to the carriage.

I learned he was a high B-rank adventurer, just shy of A-rank, and we ended up talking more about retirement plans than about the fight itself.

Once back, we waited for the caravan to regroup. The lead guard came to thank us personally, handing over a few gold coins as a token of gratitude.

I accepted them without fuss and asked what had caused the orc attack.

Apparently, one of the merchants had been transporting a magical item that attracted monsters — without the proper seals or wards.

When the caravan passed near the forest, it lured the orcs straight onto the road. The merchant, realizing it was his fault, had immediately fled alone.

Most likely, he was the man we’d seen earlier, racing away in panic. The guard leader swore to report it to the capital and see him caught.

With that sorted out, the caravan reorganized, the road was cleared, and we set off again toward Waynesvale.

As we parted ways, the merchants thanked us repeatedly. Arisa, sitting beside me, had a smug little grin — clearly pleased with herself.

The rest of the day passed without incident, marking the end of our first day’s journey.
