Konbini Ossan Volume 5 Chapter 03 — Inspection Trip

The sudden change of topic left Arisa looking lost, so I began explaining step by step.

“The factory’s finally in full operation, so I’m thinking it’s time to start a new business. But right now, I don’t have any good ideas—and honestly, not much I can do yet.
So I plan to leave the capital for a while and visit other towns. By seeing more of the world, I might come up with something new.”

“Huh... I see?”

At this point, I’d already done almost everything that could be done within the capital.

“Besides, if what we’ve built here works, we could expand the same business to other towns.
That’s another reason to travel — scouting locations and gathering information.”

“Yeah, okay. That makes sense, I guess.”

If I were to open another magic tool shop or an enchantment factory, I’d need all sorts of local information.

Word of mouth only gets you so far — seeing it firsthand is best.

“And one more thing. While we’re on the road, I’d like to inspect the military units that have been issued our high-frequency blades.
I want to see how they’re actually being used—what works, what doesn’t. If I can observe that myself, I might get some ideas for new magic tools.”

“Well, that does sound reasonable.”

Arisa nodded, but still tilted her head, unsatisfied.

“So... why am I coming along? I mean, I’m happy to, but still.”

A fair question. Naturally, I had reasons.

“First, for your leveling. You’ve probably reached the limits of what the multi-dungeon can offer, but at your current level, if something serious happens, we could be in trouble. I want you to come so we can strengthen you further.”

“I could just do that in the capital, though.”

“Not enough. The kind of leveling you can do while managing the shop on the side won’t prepare you for tougher enemies.”

What worried me most was the Demon King’s army. I’d already defeated one of the Four Heavenly Kings — there’s a real chance of retaliation.

The only reason I managed that fight was because of skill compatibility.

At our current levels, facing another Four Heavenly King head-on would be risky.

“Also, your skill, «Calculator», is crucial for an inspection trip like this. To make the most of what we find, I’ll need your analytical support.”

“Even so, do you really need me to leave the shop? You could handle this on your own.”

“There’s one more reason.”

I looked her straight in the eyes.

“It’s an apology. I hurt you, and I want to make it up to you somehow. I can’t be your lover — but as an apology, I’d like to take you on a trip. Just the two of us. What do you say?”

“I’m in! Totally in!”

She practically jumped out of her chair, eager to accept.

Of course, apology wasn’t the full story.

If we traveled together and she still realized there was no chance between us, maybe she’d finally give up.

So yes, it was a bit of a manipulative excuse, but it served both purposes.

“Alright then, Arisa. Let’s start preparing. We’ll need to make sure the shop and factory can run without us for a while — and we have to plan our route.”

“Leave that to me! With my skill, I’ll make the perfect travel plan!”

Arisa grinned from ear to ear, full of life again. Honestly, seeing her like that was the best part of all.
