After defeating the third goblin, I sat down at the root of a nearby tree. Released from the tension of battle, I let out a long breath.

Keeping watch on my surroundings, fighting, dismantling work — operating in this unfamiliar environment was a heavy stress that pressed down on me.


“Phew… alright! Two more, two more subjugations and I’ll go home today.”


If I pushed myself too hard from the start, I might suffer injuries I didn’t need to, or worse, lose my life.

I stood up, brushed the dust from my rear, turned toward the entrance, and began walking with the aim of subjugating the remaining two.

When I exited the dungeon, the sky was dyed with sunset.

I headed to the Hunter Guild branch office that inspects and buys materials and magic stones, and cashed them in.


“Purchase of five right ears and five magic stones: ¥10,000. I’m making more than a regular office worker today, but…”


Hunters spend heavily because weapons and consumables need restocking or maintenance.

Considering that, the earnings were still small. To keep working as a Hunter, it’s important to steadily earn money every day.

I stopped by a shop that sells Hunter necessities and bought a dismantling knife and a water bottle.


“I’m home!”


“Welcome back. The bath is ready, so go ahead and take it first.”


“Okay.”


After washing away the sweat and fatigue in the bath, I reached for the meal my mother had prepared, but I didn’t have much appetite.


“What’s wrong?”


“Dad… I don’t really feel like eating.”


“I see. So how was it? You finally went into a dungeon today, right?”


“It was tougher than I imagined. You can’t let your guard down, fighting monsters is risking your life, and the dismantling work was so grotesque I vomited multiple times.”


“The gap between imagination and reality is something many suffer from. Many build fantasies from glamorous tales of success, then face reality and break.”


“Yeah… I guess that’s true.”


“So what are you going to do now?”


“I’m not giving up. Sure, I saw the reality, but fighting monsters and selling materials gave me a sense of accomplishment. I’ll keep trying!”


“Yuito, don’t overdo it.”


“Understood.”


Talking with my father eased me, and as my appetite returned I began eating.

After finishing dinner, I lay on my bed and pulled up the status window.

I’d met my goal today — five goblins defeated.

Each goblin I defeated raised my Magic, Strength, Endurance, Agility, Intelligence, Spirit, Dexterity, and Luck — every ability value by +1.

If that +1 came from adding 10% of their ability values, that means goblins had all stats of at least 10. Or, if decimals are being rounded, they had at least 5.

From this, I figured that the lowest E-rank monsters have ability values around 10.

Then, when I glanced at the skills section, a new category had appeared — «Monster-type».


“What is 【Club Techniques】, anyway?”


All the goblins I’d encountered carried wooden clubs. If it’s a skill, it probably makes you better at handling clubs.

The detailed description said pretty much what I expected. What surprised me most was that acquiring a skill also increased my ability values.

That was welcome news, but one thing bothered me — is this stat bonus only for «Monster-type» skills?

I’ll know later when I compare it to skills from other types.

After finishing reviewing today’s results, fatigue hit me, and I fell into a deep sleep.
