Konbini Ossan Volume 1 Chapter 12 – The Hero’s Aptitude and the Middle-Aged Man’s Aptitude

“Checking your status is simple. Just think ‘Status Check’ in your mind, and a Status Board displaying your stats will appear.
This board will show your abilities, level, skills, and other details. Now then, everyone, please check yours.”

As the king finished speaking, the heroes all did as they were told. Apparently, it worked — each of them now had a translucent, floating panel in front of them.

The boards hovered gently in front of their eyes, maintaining a proper distance, and seemed to be filled with all kinds of text.

So this must be the Status Board. I decided to try it myself as well.

Status Check

——————————

Name: Yuichi Otsugi
Level: 1

Strength: G
Magic: G
Endurance: G
Agility: G

Attribute: None

Skill: ERROR

——————————

…This seems pretty bad.

The letter “G” is usually reserved for very low stats — possibly even the lowest. That doesn’t bode well.

“Now then, everyone. The recorders will be moving down the line to review and log your information, so please stay as you are for a moment.”

At the king’s command, I stood still, exposing my pathetic stats for all to see.

Soon enough, one of the officials came over and glanced at my Status Board. His brow furrowed instantly, and he began scribbling on the papers in his hands.

One by one, the officials log everyone’s data.

To be honest, this whole thing feels rather dangerous. The kingdom clearly wants to gain full control over the heroes — not just mentally, but logistically as well.

They’re cataloging each individual’s abilities — probably to monitor and manage them like weapons.

These heroes will be treated as assets: managed, deployed, stored, and utilized as needed. Hardly human treatment.

Since they started recording from the back of the group, they were only just reaching the front — meaning the true heroes, those four with the Hero Title, were up next.

“A-Amazing! As expected of a true Hero!”

An official shouted as he peered at Kanehama-kun’s board.

“R-Really? That amazing?”

“Of course! Truly incredible! Kanahama-sama, if you say ‘Enlarge’ in your mind, the board will grow. Please, let everyone witness your magnificent stats!”

“Uh… okay, I guess.”

Kanahama-kun closed his eyes and seemed to concentrate. Instantly, his Status Board expanded, large enough for even someone at the back—like me—to clearly read.

——————————

Name: Keiichi Kanehama
Level: 1

Strength: S
Magic: S
Endurance: S
Agility: S

Attributes: Light, Fire, Healing, Battle Aura

Title: Hero

——————————

…A far cry from mine.

In these kinds of grading systems, “S” is almost always the top-tier rating, isn't? Judging by the official’s reaction, my assumption seems correct.

“This ‘S’ rank… is that really that incredible?”

“Absolutely, without question!”

Kanehama-kun asked, and the flustered official eagerly launched into an explanation.

“Normally, A is the limit of what humans can achieve in any stat. But at just Level 1, you’ve already reached S-rank. That is unprecedented!
And as for your attributes… the average person has ‘None.’ If someone has one element, they’re considered a capable mage. Two makes them a genius. Three is a miracle.
But you, Kanahama-sama, possess four! A miracle beyond miracles!”

The official’s gushing made it crystal clear — Kanehama-kun is a complete outlier.

And of course they’re excited. They’ve just acquired a living, breathing weapon of mass destruction.
